Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu

5:00 PM

Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu was brought to the United States by Tai Shī Fù Tonny Kho (太師父許敬唐) in 1968. Tai Shī Fù Kho was first taught Kung Fu by his Grandfather and later by his Grandfather’s close friend (see History of Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu) in his hometown, Pekalongan, Java, Indonesia.

Tai Shī Fù’s Great Grandfather, as a result of the turmoil surrounding the impending revolution, had moved the family from Quanzhou city, Fujian province, China, to Borneo and then to Pekalongan just before the fall of the Qing Dynasty.

The city of Pekalongan, although located in Indonesia, was largely inhabited by ex-patriot Chinese who, as a result of being so isolated, were able to maintain their original Chinese heritage and traditions even as China itself underwent many changes – the fall of the Qing Dynasty and establishment of the National Republic of China, the subsequent takeover by Mao Tse Tung and the Communist rule, the Cultural Revolution and so on.

The Kung Fu taught Tai Shī Fù and which he subsequently taught in the U.S., is a reflection of these rich traditions and heritage and his students have committed to carrying this heritage forward without compromise (see Founding of Shaolin Hung Mei in Colorado).

SPIRIT OF CAMBODIA

5:30 PM

The Spirit of Cambodia Cultural Alliance was started in 2008 by cofounders Sophiny Lee and Sreylak Bin-Hemingway. It was comprised of what was once two separate groups: The Spirit of Cambodia Dragon Boat Team and The Cambodian Dance Troupe.

It was our mission to ensure that the next generation of the Cambodian community in Colorado would be able to learn from and to continue the traditions of the generations before us. The big question was, "Who was going to take over Khmer New Year temple and party celebrations in years to come?" The answer was, "Us." As the news spread of our endeavors and with immediate responses from our family, friends, and community, the start of up of SOCCA was officially formed. Our first board comprised of Dina Kor (former President), Monica Em-McLoughlin (former President, former Dragon Boat Capt.), Sreylak Bin-Hemingway (former VP, former Dragon Boat Capt.), and Anthony Te (former treasurer). Without the leadership and positive impact from our first board, we would not have the success we have today.
