The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival again is proud to offer those not affiliated with a sponsoring organization the opportunity to participate in the races by becoming members of a Community Pickup Team.
This team will race in the Novice Division (ND) for adults at Sloan’s Lake, July 25 and 26, 2009.
To qualify:
· racers must be 16 years of age or older, as of July 25, 2009.
· participate in training and practice during June or July (date and time to be determined)
· be available to race Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26
· pay the entry fee: Adults $ 33.35
What do you get for your money?
· Two days of fun for less expense than a nice dinner out
· The excitement and exhilaration of racing with 23 of your closest new friends
· The chance to race a minimum of two heats, possibly as many as five if the team makes it to the finals
· Team training and dragon boat paddling practice; no experience necessary
· The opportunity to participate in the Parade of Teams, lead by a 70-feet long Festival Dragon
· The opportunity to enjoy the Asian Marketplace, eat, learn at the Gateway to Asia tent and the Asian Village, eat some more, watch the Entertainment Stage, and eat again when you’re not participating in or watching the races
This will be one adult team, comprised of the first 12 men and 12 women (20 paddlers, a drummer, and three alternates) to register and pay the entry fee.
When the team roster is filled, an interim captain will be chosen and will receive all the team contact info, with a CC to the rest of the team. At that point, it will be YOUR team. It will be the interim captain’s responsibility to convene the team to choose their own captain and co-captain. Names of the team leaders must be relayed to the Dragon Boat Race Coordinator ASAP. From then on, it is the captain’s responsibility to convey any subsequent info from the Race Coordinator to the team.
