2010 POSTER CONTEST WINNERS
CDBF announces the winners of the
Third Annual Commemorative Poster Competition

Winning 2010 poster, by Laurie Romberg

Nearly 40 artists from across the country showcased their creativity and artistic flare by entering in the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival's Third Annual Commemorative Festival Poster competition, but congratulations go to Laurie Romberg, a graphic designer from Evergreen, who clinched first place.

"I wanted to expand my horizons and my audience,” says Romberg, owner of Romberg Designs Plus in Evergreen, in describing her reasons for entering the competition. Romberg researched Asian dragons and reviewed the winning designs from the last two years for inspiration. “I liked the mystical effect of the dragon and the water, and wanted to incorporate current images with historical context.”

2nd place

2nd Place winner by Emily Kryska

Romberg's winning design will be featured as part of the annual festival, and will be used for various collectible merchandise applications including framed prints, festival t-shirts and marketing materials.

In addition, Romberg will personally sign posters during the Festival (date and time TBD).

Emily Kryska of Boulder took second place. Her design was inspired by the elements of water and air, the colors of the Colorado sky and the Festival's dramatic dragon dance performance. Kryska recently graduated from CU with a BA in Studio Arts.

3rd place

3rd Place winner by Adrian Volz

Adrian Volz of Denver, who received an Honorable Mention in the 2009 competition, placed third. His design captures the essence of the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival with its bold palette and dynamic composition that contrasts between sharp lettering and elegant photography.

Volz plans to work in the graphic design field in Denver after his graduation next year from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.

All three winners will receive cash awards from the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival and the Asian Arts Coordinating Council.
