Application Information & Requirements
The mission of the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival (CDBF) is to build bridges of awareness, knowledge and understanding between the diverse Asian Pacific American (APA) communities and the general public through cultural education, leadership development, and athletic competition.
Gateway to Asia is a showcase for intimate traditional and contemporary forms of Asian and Asian American Pacific Islander arts, crafts and performing arts from Colorado’s diverse communities. Gateway to Asia is one of the main attractions of the CDBF festival. It attracts over 100,000 visitors every year. CDBF seeks performers to bring their cultural knowledge, experience, and excitement to an audience of diverse backgrounds.
In 2011, CDBF added a new element to Gateway to Asia: Martial Arts, in addition to the regular Gateway Stage for the intimate demonstrations and performances that we’ve always showcased.
If you’d like to submit your demonstration or performance for the Gateway to Asia stage, please:
1. Complete the application from the link below
2. Include URLs to online videos (preferred), or send a short video/audio recording of your performance, CD, DVD or VHS for review
3. Remember to include a brief biography of your group for the emcee script, 300dpi photo (jpg or tiff) for the program book and URL for the website. We want to promote your group as accurately as possible.
NOTE: An audition recording and/or link to an online video (preferred) is required for consideration as members of the Selection Committee may become more familiar with your performance. Hard copies of audition recordings will not be returned unless requested with a returned stamped envelope. Applicants will not be considered without an audition recording.
Accepted performers will be notified by May 30, 2012. We will email all accepted groups a Letter of Agreement (LOA) including the time and date of your performance and the Sound and Stage Information Sheet. Accepted performers will be required to send a representative to the Mandatory Performing Arts meeting in July (TBA).
Accepted performers will be featured in the festival program book and on our web site. Performers will be paid an honorarium.
Festival Hours:
Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 10am – 6pm
Sunday, July 29, 2012 from 10am – 5pm
Performers must abide by all Performing Arts stage rules and deadlines. Performers will have seven (7) days from the date of the notification of acceptance to confirm or decline participation. Thank you for your interest and for celebrating Asian and Asian American Pacific Islander culture!
