Gateway to Asia: Your passport across the globe!
We’re now accepting applications for 2012 Gateway To Asia performances and demonstrations!
CDBF created Gateway to Asia to educate not only the general public, but also Asians about our own diverse and thriving local communities. Gateway to Asia features more intimate performances than the Main Stage, allowing audience members to get up close and personal with performers.
Gateway to Asia also features exhibits that focus on specific Asian Pacific communities. Representatives from different communities will introduce you to their cultures and histories as well as explain to you what the arts and artifacts on display mean.
We’ve introduced visitors to the Filipino, Hmong, Indian, Indonesian communities and more — it’s like a passport to Asia and the Pacific without ever leaving Denver! Last year, we focused on Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami the country suffered on March 11; we also included an exhibit about Amache, the American concentration camp in southeast Colorado where more than 7,000 people of Japanese descent were interned during World War II. In addition, the Gateway stage showcased traditional performances from the area’s many diverse Asian communities to martial arts and hip-hop dance.
Here’s a list of the 2011 Gateway to Asia Performaners!
We haven’t yet announced the countries we’ll spotlight this year in GAteway to Asia.
But you can apply to demonstrate any culture’s traditional arts, or hip hop or Asian American talent; we’re now accepting applications for the 2012 Gateway performances.
