Dragon 5280 is the umbrella nonprofit (501c3 organization) that encompasses the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival, the Colorado Dragon Film Festival, and an Emerging Leaders Program. The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival (CDBF), is a two-day festival that is the largest pan-Asian celebration in the Rocky Mountain region. Dragon 5280 strengthens the Asian Pacific American communities while educating the public about the depth and breadth of these diverse communities through cultural education, performing arts, and marketplace combined with the exciting international and ancient sport of dragon boat racing. The Colorado Dragon Film Festival is running its 3rd annual event in 2018. The film festival is a fun 3 day event where international films are showcased to educate the public about the depth and breadth of the diverse Asian Pacific American communities.

Position Summary

The Operations Manager is an enthusiastic and resourceful self-starter who has an entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for festival event planning. This key role will provide year-round support to the Executive Director and Board of Directors, and seasonal support to the volunteer festival operations committee and contracted staff. Responsibilities include high-level festival management/oversight, managing the sales, fulfillment, and activation of corporate sponsorships, designing and producing marketing/collateral materials, growing a vibrant year-round volunteer program, managing festival concessions, providing communications and marketing/public relations support, festival/special event coordination, and performing general administrative duties.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and improve annual corporate sponsorship campaign in conjunction with Executive Director, including pre-event sponsorship sales and renewals, drafting of sponsorship contracts and forms, coordinating fulfillment of sponsorship benefits, overseeing onsite activation at the festival, and conducting post-festival debrief to cultivate ongoing sponsor relations.
  • Design and develop communication and collateral pieces from concept to execution to tracking effectiveness, including promotional posters, rack cards, program books, advertisements, web graphics, signage, invitations, and promotional items.
  • Manage annual PR/Marketing campaigns that include writing/sending press releases, e-newsletters and e-blasts and leveraging social media strategies.
  • Manage on-site concessions program including beverages and merchandise and secure liquor licenses and permits, set pricing, maintain inventory and budgets.
  • Research and development for a new database system to eventually manage, update and grow organization’s contact lists and streamline communications.
  • Provide administrative support to Executive Director, Board of Directors, festival volunteers and contractors such as database management, maintaining festival records and year-round programs.
  • Manage day-to-day office duties including responding to inquiries; process mailings and general office correspondence; process accounts payables/receivables; monthly meeting support; organize and maintain festival materials, files and archives.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Business with five years’ experience in non-profit sector.
  • Proficiency in Constant Contact, Microsoft Office Suite, and MS PowerPoint. QuickBooks experience a plus.
  • A passion for the festival’s mission and values and keen awareness of Asian Pacific American culture with the propensity to continue learning about each community.
  • Innovative and creative visionary with the ability to think outside the box, come up with more productive ways of streamlining processes who can take ideas to execution. Project management skills.
  • Proven experience with special events planning with track record of successfully managing complex and deadline-oriented projects across multiple stakeholders.
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced work environment with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work with little supervision.
  • Proven written, oral, interpersonal communication and presentation skills. Attention to detail and deadlines; well organized and highly dependable.
  • Technologically savvy with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues, learn new software and seek out new technologies to streamline processes.
  • Participate in other activities as assigned.


Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience.


Hours: Full-time salaried staff position located at the CDBF office with occasional evenings and weekend hours depending on festival production cycle, meetings and events scheduled.
