Dragon 5280 Corporation (D5280), the organizer of both the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival and the Colorado Dragon Film Festival, and the largest pan-Asian cultural organization in the Front Range region, is seeking a dynamic and seasoned leader to guide the organization into the next phase of growth. The Executive Director’s responsibilities are primarily, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Identifies, cultivates, and solicits donors, as well as relationships with foundations, corporations, individuals, and community organizations.
  2. Meets with local public agencies, community members, and other organizations to tell the D5280 story and to gain financial support.
  3. Monitors organizational activities; identifies and corrects problems related to areas such as funding, expenditures, and related matters.
  4. Manages and coordinates volunteer and professional relationships in support of D5280 events and fundraising activities.
  5. Reports to the Board of Directors and attends year-round monthly Board meetings.
  6. Manages all marketing activities for D5280, including the website, social media, and print materials.
  7. Supervises staff, contractors, consultants, and other paid personnel of D5280, including supervising the planning of the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival and the Colorado Dragon Film Festival.


D5280’s team approach to special event and organizational management mandates that all staff possess a keen sense of self-motivation, the ability to work positively with a variety of personality types and leadership styles, and the ability to be responsive, flexible and to embrace change. D5280 staff will possess and demonstrate a high standard of integrity and professionalism. Other duties as assigned based on need of the organization.

Specific requirements include:

  • Minimum four-year college degree, preferably in business or nonprofit management, event planning, or a combination of equivalent training, experience and education.
  • Proven track record of success in a leadership position overseeing operations of an organization or program with exposure to donors, while maintaining solid relationships with staff, board, donors, and the community at large.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships and implement successful fundraising strategies with individuals, donors, and grantors.
  • Demonstrated experience with grant writing, fund management, and related reporting.
  • A solid knowledge of accounting, budgeting, financial management, and marketing.
  • Extensive experience in leading the process of ongoing strategic planning.
  • Extensive experience in public speaking/public relations.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, preferably including experience developing and implementing partnerships to achieve community-wide social and economic goals.

Other desirable attributes include:

  • Keen awareness of and sensitivity to cross-cultural diversity and inclusiveness.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders from Board of Directors to community leaders and neighborhood associations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage accounting processes, budget development, and related reporting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail in all mediums.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills and ability to interface with various media.
  • Excellent problem solving, multitasking and time management skills.
  • Proven supervisory, management, and administrative experience with a variety of reports.


The D5280 Executive Director position is a full-time management position, with an annual salary competitive with similar non-profit organizations. The specific terms will be subject to the candidate’s experience and skills.
