The 2017 Colorado Dragon Boat Festival promises to be the most exciting yet! In addition to the races and performances happening throughout both days of the festival, there are several other activities to enjoy.

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony starts at 10am on Saturday, July 29th at the Main Stage with a cultural spectacle, featuring Chinese Buddhist monks chanting and blessing the festival and all the competitors, then performing a beautiful, spiritual, traditional Eye Dotting Ceremony with invited dignitaries to awaken the spirit of the dragons within the race boats. A dynamic Dragon Dance closes the Opening Ceremony.

Japanese Obon Dance

In 2011 we introduced a new performance and invited the public to join in the fun: A Japanese Obon, or Bon Odori, Dance. In the years since the Obon Dance grew and spread out in front of the Main Performing Arts Stage. This year we want to see even more dancers! The Obon Dance will take place at 10am on Sunday, July 30th at the Main Stage.

Scavenger Hunt

Noble Energy is thrilled to be sponsoring the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival scavenger hunt this year to help celebrate the Denver area’s rich and diverse Asian communities. To enter to win a custom Broncos jersey or Yeti cooler, take a selfie and post on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with hashtag #CDBF2017 and tag @noblecolorado OR answer Checkpoint 2 or 3 and visit the Noble Energy booth to turn in your answers. Each post/submission will count as a single entry!

Anime Tent

Colorado Dragon Boat Festival is proud to partner once again with Colorado Anime Fest to showcase Anime films at this summer event. Come visit the Anime tent and meet our very special guest, Jad (Jade) Saxton, a voice actor and celebrity with over 150 roles in anime and video games. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to meet her in person!

The ImaginAsian Art Collaboration is where you can let your creative juices flow. This year, local artists will be running the area and encourage young artists to help paint dragon boat paddles. Join us in the ImaginAsian area located near Dragonland for Kids on the West side of the festival for a paddle painting workshop. Paddles from old Dragon Boat races are being repurposed as art pieces for auction and display. Please contribute to our 2017 community project and give your artistic input to bring these paddles to life. There will also be drawing and coloring for kids. Come and take a break from the festival sun and join us at our shaded tent!

Explore local youth organizations that strive to enrich the lives of children. This year, UP-cycle with us! SAVE your water bottle from the food court and re-purpose them to make something new and useful, i.e. a plant starter or bird feeder. We’re bringing back Big Ball Entertainment’s Water Zorbs (located on the East side of the festival). Water Zorbs allow you to walk on water without getting wet! There is a stage area that will feature performances and story telling. We will also feature Asian-inspired games like balloon fishing, horse shoes, bean bag toss, and a target balloon throw. Also, look out for entertainers like magician Adam Lee and Bongo the Balloon Man!
