We've teamed up with Barnes and Noble for a special partnership! On December 12, we will host our FREE book pop-up with local author Gil Asakawa, and hand out holiday vouchers to shoppers. Stop by the Glendale bookstore and check out some of our top picks for contemporary writing, teen readers, and dragon boat stories for little ones! There will be book readings and signings, imaginary dragon boat paddling lessons with a drum, and opportunities to check out holiday merchandise for your gift-buying needs!

Additionally, we'll be handing out vouchers on the 12th. From December 12-16, when you buy a book with this voucher, a portion of the purchase goes towards our non-profit! Thank you for your support during this holiday season!

Gil Asakawa, Being Japanese American:
A JA Sourcebook for Nikkei, Hapa & their friends
Gil Asakawa is a journalist, editor, author and blogger who covers Japan, Japanese American, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) culture and social justice issues. He is a nationally known speaker, panelist and expert, and the author of “Being Japanese American" - a history of Japanese in America - and co-author of “The Toy Book” (Knopf, 1991) - a history of the toys of the Baby Boom generation. Gil’s day job is as the adviser for the student news website in the journalism department of CU-Boulder.

​Dr. Kha Yang Xiong, Who Are the Hmong People?
​

​Dr. Kha Yang Xiong was born in a Hmong village in the hills of Laos. At the end of the Vietnam War, her family fl ed to escape persecution and settled in the refugee camps of Thailand. When she was seven years old, her family immigrated to the United States. Currently, Kha is a teacher helping children learn English. She recently received her doctorate degree from the University of Colorado Denver with a focus on equity in education. She is passionate about helping children learn about their roots, culture, heritage, and language. Kha is on a journey to make books to teach about the Hmong people.
