![]() We're very proud to receive the Impact Arts Award for 2013 as part of the Mayor's Awards for Excellence in Arts & Culture. For 13 years, the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival has showcased the richness of Denver's diverse Asian and Asian American communities with performances, demonstrations, exhibits, food, merchandise and yes, the athletic competition of the ancient sport of dragon boat racing! It's a great feeling to be recognized for our efforts by Mayor Michael B. Hancock and the City of Denver's Department of Arts & Venues. A group including members of CDBF's operations committee and board assembled at the Nov. 14 awards ceremony held at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts to receive the prestigious award. Other nominees for the Impact Awards included these excellent institutions: Phamaly Theatre Company, Denver Gay Men's Chorus, Denver Women's Chorus, Mexican Cultural Center, Cortney Stell and Swallow Hill Music Association. So we're doubly moved to have gotten such an honor. The presentation featured a keynote speech by Mayor Hancock, and was emceed by the always-entertaining 9News arts reporter Kirk Montgomery. The Award itself is no typical trophy or certificate. It's a beautiful original work of art, a print titled "The Wave" by Denver artist Georgia Amar. We'll display it proudly at our offices! Here's the video produced by the City of Denver, which was shown during the awards ceremony:
