The photos have been posted and the judges have chosen, and 12 finalists are vying for your "LIKE"s on Facebook. The first-ever CDBF Selfie Contest generated hundreds of submissions using the hashtag #CDBFselfie. SWome weren't quite selfies -- they were taken by someone other than you, or you took a photo of someone else. (That would be a snapshot.)
But the finalists were fun and creative, and represented all different areas of the festival that were their faves. You can check out the finalists and vote with your LIKEs (you can see all the photos without being on Facebook, but you have to be a Facebook user to vote). Voting ends August 1, so tell your friends to check out the pics! Here is the Facebook album of the dozen CDBF Selfie Contest finalists!

But over the years we've also added talented local emcees for our Gateway to Asia stages, and also since two years ago, to our newest performance showcase, our Band Stage. New this year at the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival is the Culinary Dojo, a cooking demonstration tent where local chefs will show you how to cook various Asian dishes all weekend. You’ll be able to sample the food and hear stories from the chefs on how the dishes represent their culture, from the Philippines and Vietnam to India and Hawaii.
Chefs scheduled to be on hand include Mary Nguyen, the talent behind several award-winning local eateries; Leah Eveleigh, who got her start serving Filipino food at CDBF, and earlier this year won an episode of the Food Network's "Cutthroat Kitchen"; Nita Chitvej, who has deep roots in Denver's foodie scene and runs Chada Thai Restaurant; and Biju Thomas, who will cook up Indian food but is well-known in this area as the chef for the USA Pro Cycling Challenge and other cycling events (he's opening a curry restaurant in RiNo). What's your favorite part of the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival? The races? The food (Monkey Balls!)? The performances? The Dragonland kids' area? Nezzie, the cutest miniature horse in the world? The Cultural Unity urban arts stage? The Opening Ceremony with its amazing dragon dance and eye-dotting ritual? There's so much to see, and so many places to shoot a selfie!
This year, CDBF is inviting you to submit selfies that reflect all the parts of the festival that you love, and we'll give the top three winners prizes (VISA gift cards for $100, $50 and $25). All you need to do it upload your selfies and use two hashtags: #CDBFselfie and #CDBF2014. Click to open the PDF of the complete program book for CDBF 2014. You can download it and plan your visit to the festival in advance!

This is the Year of the Horse, and CDBF is celebrating by bringing the cutest horse in the world to the festival. Meet Nezzie (short for "Nezumi," which is Japanese for "mouse"!). Nezzie is a Miniature Horse, so she will not grow bigger. She's adorable. You can celebrate Nezzie's Year, by taking a photo with her at the festival. Find her by Dragonland, the children's area. For a minimum donation of $5 which will go to sustaining the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival, you and your family can pose with Nezzie and shoot a photo with your own camera, or we'll use our camera and email you the digital photo. Be sure to say "hi" to Nezzie, and support CDBF! Each year since the start, CDBF has named Honorary Chairs who represent a role model for the Asian community with their leadership and support.
We’re proud to introduce the 2014 Honorary Chairs: Paul Tauer served as Mayor of the city of Aurora, Colorado for 16 years and a City Councilman for 8 years before that. He was during his years in elected office, and is still today, a true friend of the area's diverse Asian community. He established The Aurora Asian/Pacific Community Partnership during his first term in office, the first of such groups in the State. Former First Lady of Aurora Kate Tauer was a founding member of the Partnership and is remains a very active member to this day. |
